Volkswagen Showcases New Tiguan

Volkswagen Tiguan

The most popular Volkswagen in the world, the Tiguan, was showcased to the world this week. The mid-sized SUV has been responsible for 7.6 million sales since its initial release in 2007 and the third generation could be in dealerships by the first quarter of 2024. VW says it has “improved the Tiguan in practically every area” so let’s have a look at the car in greater detail.

In terms of engines, two 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid models are on offer, developing 201bhp and 268bhp. These feature a 19.7kWh battery capable of 60 miles of range.
As well as these, a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine produces either 192bhp in front-wheel drive or 261bhp in four-wheel drive. 2.0-litre diesel options are available for those who drive more miles, with the front-wheel drive version producing 148bhp while the all-wheel drive makes 190bhp.

Coming with a completely new design, the front of the Tiguan has a bolder look with flat LED headlights and radiator grille openings on the outer sides of the bumper to help airflow and add to the more streamlined nature of this iteration. At the rear, a new horizontal LED strip gives the car a different feel and large clearings over the 17-20-inch wheels give the vehicle a taller stance.

In the new look cockpit, there’s a 12.9-inch infotainment display tablet that comes as standard - although that can be upgraded to a 15-inch version - with both having a new menu structure, graphics and a bunch of new technology to keep you entertained. The Tiguan is also equipped with a large number of assist systems as standard. Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist and Rear View are joined by Dynamic Road Sign Display, Park Assist Pro and Trailer Assist.

The seats are built for long distance driving and feature a 10-chamber pressure massage function, heating or ventilation depending on outside temperatures. It is a car to use for a big shopping trip, as the new Tiguan has increased in length by three centimetres and contains a larger luggage compartment, with a capacity increase of 37 litres to 625 litres.
