At a special event in Miami Beach, Ferrari celebrated its 70th anniversary in the USA with the launch of the new 12 Cilindri, possibly one of the last front-engined V12s that the Prancing Horse will ever make. Translated literally to 12 cylinders, the 12 Cilindri replaces the outgoing 812 Superfast and sidesteps any hybrid or turbo power to continue Ferrari’s naturally aspired V12 legacy that began in 1947.

The 12 Cilindri has been unveiled as both a coupe and open-top spider and combines a new futuristic design with Daytona-like qualities that bring with it a sprinkling of nostalgia. Ferrari itself even says that the 12 Cilindri is “inspired by the legendary Grand Tourers of the 1950s and ‘60s.”

Its sleek bonnet has two vents which allow the engine to be cooled and headlights which wrap around the front bumper with its traditional grille beside it. From the opposite angle, there is no rear spoiler to speak of as engineers have used two active flaps integrated with the rear screen instead. Aerodynamics have been at the forefront of Ferrari’s mind with the underbody sculpted in a way that streamlines the car and releases hot air from the engine.

Of course, the heartbeat of the 12 Cilindri is that 6.5 litre V12 with 830hp and 678Nm of torque. This enables a 0-62mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 211mph. The F140HD engine on the Ferrari 12Cilindri features modified components and software, some of which were used on the special series 812 Competizione. The overall weight of the V12 has been reduced by 40% with engineers using titanium and aluminium parts. This has enabled the maximum revs to be increased to 9500 rpm. The 12 Cilindri sports the 8-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) first featured on the SF90 Stradale and 21-inch tyres aid with gear ratios and shifting times.

Inside the car, the layout from the Purosangue is replicated this time with only two sporty seats. Each person has their own screen (driver side 15.6inch and passenger 8.8inch) in the modern cockpit, separated by a large central 10.25 inch display that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Located on the central tunnel is a wireless charging mat to charge your phone with ease. As an optional extra, there is a high-end audio system developed in collaboration with Burmester that comes with 15 loudspeakers at 1600 W.

The Ferrari 12 Cilindri is expected to be priced from €395,000 in Italy (around £340,000) with deliveries taking place in 2025.
