Sergio Perez to remain with Cadillac until 2029

Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year contract extension with Cadillac, which will see him remain with the American team until 2029.

The announcement was made ahead of Perez’s home Grand Prix in Mexico this weekend, where he will celebrate his 300th Grand Prix start in Formula 1.

Perez — known as ‘Checo’ — joined Cadillac, alongside fellow F1 veteran Valtteri Bottas, as they began life in the sport as the eleventh team on the grid. The Mexican driver currently finds himself bottom of the Driver Standings, with Bottas one place above, while Cadillac are also at the bottom of the Constructors’ Standings.

Nevertheless, the six-time Grand Prix winner has decided to stay put, with Cadillac saying it hopes to ‘build a competitive team at the pinnacle of global motorsport’. Cadillac F1 Team is currently operating across hubs in Silverstone, Indianapolis and Charlotte.

“Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time”

“Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,” said Perez. “Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.

“I want to thank Dan (Towriss), Mark (Reuss), and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what we have started together. To every member of this special team, at the track, in the U.S., the U.K., and our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I won’t let you down. Let’s keep pushing!”

The Mexico City Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 1 November at 8pm UK time.
