Nissan to Go Fully Electric in Europe by 2030

Nissan has announced its intention to go fully electric in Europe by 2030 and much of the design, engineering and production will take place in the UK.

“EV is the ultimate mobility solution. More than a million customers have already joined our journey and experienced the fun of a Nissan electric vehicle, and there is no turning back now,” said Makoto Uchida, Nissan President and CEO.

Under its own Nissan Ambition 2030 pledge, the Japanese brand is introducing 27 electrified vehicles, including 19 EVs by 2030. Two of these future EVs have already been confirmed for Europe, one of which will succeed the Nissan Micra as the entry level car in the Nissan lineup. Also, in the next few years, Nissan plans to introduce cobalt-free technology to bring down the cost of EV batteries by 65%.

Europe is currently responsible for a third of the million-plus Nissan EVs sold around the world and since 2022, the Nissan range in Europe has been 100% electrified, with models like the Qashqai and X-Trail given Nissan’s own e-POWER technology.

Nissan Unveils Concept 20-23

In other Nissan related news, the Japanese brand has unveiled an electric concept car called the Nissan Concept 20-23 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nissan Design Europe being located in London.

Speaking about the Concept 20-23 at its unveiling in London, Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for global design, said: “The young team here at NDE was given a simple brief: design a fun electric city car that you’d like to drive every day in London. The 20-23 Concept that they designed is a compact hatchback which is strongly influenced by the online racing world. I love the story it tells about how the worlds of modern city living, online gaming and zero emissions mobility intersect.”
