H&H’s 30th Anniversary Auction Nets £3.5m in Sales

The H&H Classics’ anniversary sale has proved a huge success, with more than 100 classics sold for a combined total of over £3.5 million. Taking place at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, the auction had generated a lot of interest prior to the September 20th date.

The highest sale price was achieved a day before the auction as a 1938 Lagonda V12 Le Mans Replica Sports Tourer sold for £225,000, £45,000 over its pre-sale estimate. A car from a similar era, a 1927 Bentley 3/4½-Litre Tourer, found a new home in France thanks to a £198,333 sale, more than £18,000 over its lower estimate. Another Bentley that commanded a six figure sum was a 1965 Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur Saloon which fetched £129,375, almost £20,000 over its lower estimate.

A heartwarming story of the day came via the sale of a 1960 Facel Vega HK500 which sold for £115,875, more than £25,000 over its lower estimate and saw the car reunited with the grandson of original owner Ernest Doe, director of Ernest Doe & Sons in Essex.

A 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS project car in need of completion was snapped up for £50,625. As one of just 543 right hand drive examples, the car represented something of a rarity and sold for more than £12,000 over its lower estimate. Cars weren’t the only items on the agenda, however, as a 1/25 share in a 1943 Catalina Flying Boat was sold for £24,750.

Attention will now switch back to two wheels for the final classic scooter and motorcycle sale of the year in November, before the final classic car sale of the year later in the same month.
