Jaguar Type 00 in ‘London Red’ revealed in the capital
Despite a seemingly chaotic week at Jaguar, which, according to online reports, included JLR boss Gerry McGovern being relieved of his duties, it appears it is business as usual, with the brand unveiling its controversial Type 00 in a new colour.
The Type 00 EV concept, in ‘London Red’, was unleashed onto the streets of the capital, leaving onlookers both curious and baffled in equal measure. Plenty of carspotters were on the scene to get a closer look at the car that has had everybody talking.
Jaguar sparked international discussion when Type 00 was revealed at the back end of 2024 as part of its electric rebrand, and garnered opinions from beyond the automotive world, including US President Donald Trump, who called the marketing campaign ‘stupid’ and ‘woke’ on social media.
Type 00’s world tour
Pictures alone were enough to send the world into a frenzy, though the Type 00 eventually made its way out into the wild. It was first seen at Art Basel in Miami in late 2024, then a few months later, it dropped off celebrity guests at Paris Fashion Week, before turning up on British shores at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
All of those appearances showcased the Type 00 in blue, with this week’s appearance in ‘London Red’ — a colour inspired by the ‘hues of Kensington’ — paying tribute to Jaguar’s 90th anniversary, where it sat alongside a 1935 SS Jaguar. The company said the models were ‘separated by nine decades but united by the ‘Copy Nothing’ ethos’.
Jaguar’s rebrand in 2024 also included a complete wiping of its Instagram page, so it’s nice to see its history finally being acknowledged.

Car spotters catch the Jaguar Type 00 in motion
Yes, it may look like AI, but I can assure you that the following videos taken from car spotters in London genuinely show the Jaguar Type 00 in motion. Judging by the comments on each video, let’s just say that people certainly aren’t afraid to let their opinions be known.
Jaguar has called the Type 00 a ‘preview of its future’, with the promise of a luxury GT to come in 2026 for around £100,000. Whether it looks exactly like the concept remains to be seen, but speculation has suggested it may well be a close match.
What has happened to Gerry McGovern?

All of this fresh Type 00 content comes amidst the significant news, from multiple online sources, that chief creative officer Gerry McGovern was reportedly sacked by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) this week.
McGovern, who was largely behind Jaguar’s headline-making Type 00 concept, had been at JLR for 21 years, where he famously introduced the Range Rover Evoque, as well as reinventing the Range Rover, Discovery and Defender brands. Before JLR, McGovern had stints at Ford, Austin and Chrysler, while he was also awarded an OBE in the 2020 New Year’s Honours for services to automotive design.
News of the Coventry-born designer’s departure from JLR was met with shock from all corners of the automotive world, and sources at Autocar India even suggested McGovern had been "escorted out of the office".
JLR has yet to publicly confirm the news, simply responding ‘no comment’ to any enquiries. McGovern’s exit comes not long after the retirement of former JLR chief executive Adrian Mardell, with P.B. Balaji replacing him.
