Jaguar Type 00 turns heads at Paris Fashion Week

First public appearance in Europe for the headlining-making concept

If one moment in the automotive world created a storm like no other in 2024, it was Jaguar’s ‘Copy Nothing’ rebrand.

The legendary British brand chose to bet the house, which meant ceasing all new car production and taking the company in a completely different direction. An electric future awaits, as does an uncertain one.

Following marketing material that ruffled feathers from your typically sensitive news outlets, alongside a new logo, font and monogram, Jaguar released images of the concept that would pave the way for its new era. People were talking about Jaguar, and as Alex Goy summed up in his opinion piece on the subject, that is exactly what the brand was hoping to do.

The concept had its world premiere at Miami Art Week among the type of crowd that Jaguar is now looking to attract.

So it was little surprise when the Type 00 made its first public appearance in Europe at Paris Fashion Week, ferrying several A‑listers around the French capital. There were cameras aplenty - as is to be expected during such events - although, in a change of tone, flashes were aimed towards the Jaguar as much as the celebrity inside it.

On Sunday, Irish actor Barry Keoghan pulled up to The Peninsula in Paris after attending the Valentino show.

The following day, British actor Jamie Dornan was seen exiting the Type 00 at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée.

In its final appearance in Paris, the Type 00 was used by Academy Award winner Zoë Saldaña and her husband Marco Perego‑Saldaña.

Why Paris?

Jaguar chose Paris for the Type 00’s first European appearance having chosen the city’s Golden Triangle luxury fashion district as a location for one of its new brand stores.

There was also a nod to the country in the Type 00’s French Ultramarine blue paint colour. The satin/metallic finished colour is the work of Jaguar’s in-house paint specialists and nods to France’s arts and culture since the Renaissance era.

Will the production Type 00 look the same as the concept?

The answer to this is no longer so clear.

Most concept cars are used to showcase and attract attention to a brand before being refined for the final production version. However, in the case of the Type 00, Jaguar stated, “any questions about whether the car is real were soon dispelled as it drove through the streets of Paris in a glamorous arrival."

I would usually have taken this statement literally, although, in recent times, we have been ‘treated’ to the Tesla Cybertruck, a car that defies all traditional motoring design logic. Watch this space, I suppose.
