Anyone for tennis? Meet the Renault 5 E-Tech Roland-Garros edition
Orders open for the highest-spec version of the multi-award-winning hot hatch
In two months, the world’s best tennis players will head to Paris for the second Grand Slam of the season - the French Open. The annual tournament at Stade Roland Garros is the biggest prize of the clay court season and one of France’s showpiece events, drawing significant attention for two weeks in May.
Something else that has been drawing significant attention since its reveal is the new Renault 5 E-Tech. Winning multiple awards and being praised from all quarters, Renault has found a winning formula that might convince people to put their hands in their pockets for an electric car. Plenty have made their way to the UK already and I suspect this will continue to happen for the foreseeable future.
So what has Renault decided to do? Yes, you guessed it, create a special edition. And with the French Open just around the corner, the French brand has paid tribute to the tournament with the snappily named Renault 5 E-Tech electric Roland-Garros edition, now available to order for Renault 5 Pass customers.
The exclusive matte shade colour of Shadow Grey
What is different about the Roland-Garros special edition?
As the highest-spec version of the 5, the Roland-Garros special edition adds some exclusive new features.
Firstly, it can be chosen in four colours: Artic White, Midnight Blue, Diamond Black and the exclusive matte shade of Shadow Grey. These colours are paired with the satin chrome roofline and specially designed 18-inch black diamond-cut Electro alloy wheels with centres in Shadow Grey.
There’s no mistaking its special edition-ness, with Roland-Garros logo featured at the base of the front doors surrounded by crosses.
Interior
Inside, the 5 is kitted in exclusive light grey upholstery created using recycled textile, with special patterns weaved into it.
The Roland-Garros logo is used again, this time on the backrests of the front seats, while a small French flag can be found on door panels and the lower dashboard. The satin metal dashboard includes a backlit area displaying the name “Roland-Garros Paris”, and the championship courts are referenced with a clay-coloured wireless smartphone charger and contoured floor mats.
Range and Price
The Roland-Garros special edition is based on the Comfort Range version of the Renault 5 E-Tech. Built on the AmpR Small platform and using a 52kWh battery, it puts out 150hp, while a range of up to 252 miles can be expected.
Those eligible can order one from £29,995 OTR.
