Patsy Burt's Jaguar XK120 to be Auctioned in Buxton
A rare 1954 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe, once owned by Patsy Burt, is the subject of the latest H&H Classics auction at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton later this month.
Patsy Burt was an esteemed racing driver, fighting the inequalities in motorsport (that many would say still remain today) to produce 42 victories and break nearly 100 records - becoming one of the most successful British female racing drivers of all time. She switched to single-seater racing in 1958 and never looked back, constantly finishing well up the leaderboard at most British hillclimb and sprint races for nearly three decades with her distinctive powder blue racing cars, including the iconic Cooper T59.
Her 1954 Jaguar XK120 was a car she cherished dearly and stands as an icon of a remarkable period in British motoring history.
As one of only 195 XK120s built in right-hand drive, ‘OLF 460’ was supplied to Burt via Henlys of London and participated in various sprints and hill climbs since. As well as being meticulously maintained, the car has been given a significantly more powerful 3.8-litre XK DOHC engine along with numerous other modern upgrades that work in tandem with its historic features.
Damian Jones, senior motorcar specialist at H&H Classics, said: "The Jaguar XK120 holds a significant place in British motoring, especially with its ties to Patsy Burt's legacy in motorsport. It's a privilege to have this vehicle at our auction. Beyond its engineering, it's the history behind it, and its connection to Burt, that truly stands out."
“To own 'OLF 460' is to own a significant piece of history," Jones added "Not only does it embody the breakthroughs and advancements of its time, but it also carries the spirit of Patsy Burt – a trailblazer who redefined what was possible for women in the world of motor racing.”
The legendary car will be offered for sale on November 29th at The Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, estimated to fetch between £100,000 - £120,000.
