Introducing the one-off 1,622bhp Bugatti Brouillard

Bugatti has joined the ranks of Ferrari and Lamborghini by introducing its own personal commission service ‘Programme Solitaire’, allowing owners to create their dream one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Solitaire takes inspiration from Bugatti’s coachbuilding roots in the early 20th century, in which the collaborations between car manufacturers and specialist coachbuilders led to some of the finest early automotive creations. In Bugatti’s case, it led to icons like the Type 57 SC Atlantic.

Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti, said: "Each precious Solitaire will be unique and peerless, offering a level of attention to detail not found in even the most exclusive automotive creations.”

This service will be exercised twice a year by lucky and loyal Bugatti customers, and its inaugural creation is what we see pictured here - the Brouillard.

Brouillard - In depth

Why Brouillard? Well, the coupé’s name pays homage to Ettore Bugatti’s beloved horse. The founder had a great love of horses and Brouillard was his favourite of all, a majestic white thoroughbred that was admired for its speed, beauty and grace.

And that equine speed is certainly replicated in the car, with the Brouillard being built on Bugatti’s W16-powered platform, producing a whopping 1,622bhp from the legendary quad-turbocharged engine.

In terms of design, the lower third of the Brouillard has been made deliberately darker to make the upper two-thirds appear lighter and ‘more dynamic’, while helping the wheels appear proportionally larger. Air intakes help cool the radiators and the fixed ductail wing provides aerodynamic balance, while complementing the silhouette.

Interior

A glass roof floods the inside with light, where there is a blend of Paris-sourced tartan patterns and green tinted carbon fibre, along with aluminium components. Ettore Bugatti’s favourite horse is referenced with embroidered motifs on the door panels and back seats, while the centre piece is made of glass and worked into the aluminium gear shifter.

Bugatti Brouillard owner & where to see it

We haven’t been given the person’s name, but Bugatti says the commissioning owner is an “enormously passionate Bugatti collector” and not just of cars, but the furniture of Carlo Bugatti and bronze sculptures of Rembrandt Bugatti.

The owner wanted to create a masterpiece, tying in elements from the whole Bugatti family and honouring the brand’s rich history.

For a glimpse of the Brouillard in the flesh, the car will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Monterey Car Week in California.
