Bugatti Chiron successor to have V16 engine - listen here

Bugatti has announced its next hypercar - set to be revealed in June - will use a V16 hybrid engine.

The French company says goodbye to the W16 engine that was used on its Chiron, and Veyron before that, and going by the short video Bugatti has released (scroll down), it sounds simply incredible.

While details regarding anything else to do with the new Bugatti are scarce, it did have this to say about the upcoming release,

“With each generation of its hyper sports car, Bugatti has shifted the benchmark of design, engineering, performance and craftsmanship to new heights. And this year, eight years to the day since the Chiron was revealed, Bugatti shows the world the first page of the newest chapter in its rich history.”

In an automotive world where brands are switching to electric or downsizing their engines to meet emissions targets, Bugatti is going bolder than ever before while adopting some form of electrification with its V16 hybrid powertrain.

A V16 engine hasn’t been seen on a production car since the now extremely rare 1991 Cizeta-Moroder V16T. Companies have dabbled with the idea of V16 engines in the past but have rarely got past the prototype stage.

Bugatti finished off the announcement by saying this of its upcoming Chiron successor":

“Incomparable in every detail, it is a pure embodiment of Bugatti’s DNA, created not just for the present, or even the future – but “Pour l’éternité (for eternity)”.
