Ferrari announce 40th anniversary GTO Legacy Tour

Ferrari is to embark on a GTO Legacy Tour later this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the GTO.

Initially unveiled at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show, the Ferrari GTO went on to achieve public acclaim with its V8 turbo engine and styling. The GTO is often referred to as the 288 in reference to its 2.8-litre capacity coupled with its eight cylinders, though its GTO name is a nod to the legendary 250 GTO of the 1960s. It was the first Ferrari to mount its V8 with twin turbos lengthwise and only 200 were intended to be built for Group B racing. Ultimately, however, Ferrari pulled out of the championship due to major rule changes but it became the Italian giant’s first ever supercar and paved the way for the F40, F50, Ferrari Enzo and La Ferrari which came along later.

Before production ended in 1987, 272 were built and now owners of the GTO are being invited to join Ferrari in a tour of the Italian Dolomites between October 1st and 5th 2024 before culminating with a parade around the Fiorano Circuit.

It is the second time Ferrari has done a Legacy Tour after the F40-themed outing in 2023, which explored a route from Forte dei Marmi through the Apuan Alps and Tuscan countryside before ending at Maranello.

All GTO owners wishing to take part in the GTO Legacy Tour will need to contact their official Ferrari dealer by the end of April to secure their place.
