Alpine X Mathieu Cesar

French brand Alpine has teamed up with black and white photographer Mathieu Cesar to create a Monochromatic A110. Cesar is famous for bringing emotion and character to photography by combining shadows, light and contrast. As a lifelong petrolhead, he couldn’t turn down the chance to work with one of his home country’s most famous manufacturers.

"My world is largely one of passion and childhood influences that I perpetuate and try to bring to life through mostly black-and-white photographs. Cars are the result of human ingenuity. The object brings people together while remaining universal. That's what we're trying to achieve with our Monochromatic project with the Alpine designers," explained Mathieu Cesar.

Exterior

At the first meeting between Cesar and the Alpine design team in early 2024, the use of the black and white gradient on the bodywork was defined. The team stripped back the A110 S’s aluminium bodywork to work on transition zones in white shading, while the gloss black front and rear panels create a graphic impression.

Interior

Inside, there is a contrast between the white upper section and the black lower section, with the use of 3D printing to create lightness for the backrests and door trims. The gradient design seen on the exterior is referred to in the white to black upholstery. The interior is finished off with an aluminium nameplate detailing its 1 of 1 status and door sills.

Alpine’s fourth artistic collaboration

The Monochromatic A110 S was revealed at an event staged by Mathieu Cesar and attended by nearly 300 guests, including Alpine brand ambassador and French football legend Zinedine Zidane. The project is Alpine’s fourth year in a row of artistic collaboration following the Alpine A110 S by Felipe Pantone in 2021, the A110 Sastruga by the Obvious Collective in 2022 and the A110 Metamorphosis by Arne Quinze in 2023.
