2025 Goodwood Revival to celebrate 75 years of VW Type 2 Split Screens

Track opening parade to feature vast Volkswagen collection

The last two years of the Goodwood Revival have kicked off with a motorcycle parade and spectacle of Beach Buggies. This year sees the turn of an array of Volkswagen Type 2 Split Screens as the famous historic motoring event is set to begin in a Woodstock-esque style.

Possibly the most recognisable of all campervans, the Volkswagen Type 2 Split Screens are as popular for their design as they are for their versatility, with VW campers being used for a variety of purposes from commercial vans to holiday-use since being introduced to the world in 1950.

“A Cultural Phenomenon”

Goodwood Revival founder The Duke of Richmond: “The Goodwood Revival has a long history of celebrating significant vehicles – everything from the Mini and Fiat 500, to the Ferrari 250 GTO and Jaguar D-type. This year it is the turn of the ‘Split Screen’ Volkswagen Type 2, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025. The Type 2 is more than just an automotive icon; it is a cultural phenomenon, equally at home in campervan form on a hippie encampment or family holiday camp, as a delivery van, or even as a race car transporter. We will be celebrating this variety by bringing together a wonderfully varied collection of VW Type 2s, which will open the track each morning in colourful fashion, and pop up across the Revival site.”

Sustainable fuel is the focus once again

As well as the opening parade, the weekend will feature a full schedule of 13 races, all set to run once again exclusively on sustainable fuel. For a flavour of the sights and sounds of last year’s event, see the Driven Podcast video below.
