Volvo Reveals Fully Electric EM90

Volvo EM90

Volvo has unveiled its first ever fully electric people carrier. The EM90, described by the Swedish brand as a ‘living room on the move’, has a strong emphasis on comfort. It has a range to match with a capacity of 459 miles on a single charge.

The EV has a 116kWh battery that can charge from 10-80% in just under half an hour. Thanks to its 200kW electric motor, 0-62mph takes 8.3 seconds, quite impressive for a people carrier.

However, as mentioned before, the EM90 excels in its comfort with Volvo claiming dual chamber air suspension and silent tyres will offer the driver and passengers a smooth ride along with south isolation and road noise cancellation technology. The luxurious looking interior has reclining seats, individual climate control panels, armrests and plenty of space allowing everyone’s journey to feel like a first class flight.

A high-definition 16.5-inch screen is mounted to the roof can fold down and even has a camera fitted for business meetings and has a variety of third party apps.

The audio system has 21 Bowers & Wilkins speakers and many of the functions in the car are voice controlled, including the audio and interior lighting.

The EM90 is available to pre-order in China for £91,520, although whether other countries will follow has yet to be disclosed.

“With the EM90, we’re taking Volvo Cars’ heritage and leadership in safety into the exciting new electric MPV segment,” said Jim Rowan, Chief Executive at Volvo Cars. “It allows us to tap new market demand we’ve not explored before and broadens the appeal of the Volvo brand to more people.”
