Vauxhall reveals Corsa GSE Gran Turismo concept car
Vauxhall will display its new electric concept car at the upcoming IAA Mobility 2025 event in Germany this September.
The Corsa GSE Gran Turismo combines the well-known and much-loved Corsa nameplate with Vauxhall’s motorsport roots, while showcasing the ethos of the brand’s GSE (Grand Sport Electric) arm. According to Vauxhall, the Corsa GSE Gran Turismo “embodies the essence of the GSE performance sub-brand” and gives a possible preview of upcoming GSE models. The concept reveal follows last month’s unveiling of the Mokka GSE, the marque’s fastest electric car.
Performance in numbers
So how fast will this one be?
The fully electric powertrain with dual 350kW electric motors produces around 790bhp and 800Nm of torque, allowing the Corsa GSE Gran Turismo to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.0 seconds and achieve a top speed of 199mph. The concept’s performance has also been increased thanks to the use of lightweight materials throughout, allowing the car to weigh only 1,170kg.
Exterior
Although it covers the same amount of road as a standard Corsa, this GSE Gran Turismo iteration is more muscular and has a lower and much wider stance.
Finished in pearl white with touches of vivid yellow, sharper lines have been used on the body, combined with technical details, all while nodding to the brand’s motorsport heritage. The Vauxhall Vizor, seen on all the brand’s models, has been made slimmer and contains an illuminated Griffin emblem that sits at the centre. This is matched by lit-up bold Vauxhall lettering at the rear.
Aerodynamics are considered with the inclusion of aero skirts in front of the front and rear bumpers, along with black aero wheelarch extensions. These allow smoother airflow to assist the car’s handling at high speeds. Aerodynamic alloy wheels also help increase efficiency by reducing air turbulence in the wheelhouses, while an active aero spoiler helps increase or decrease downforce depending on the driving situation.
Interior
Inside, there’s a modern and simplistic cabin built for racing, featuring a sleek steering wheel and heads-up display giving the driver all the essential info they need.
The lightweight black and bright yellow sport seat is suspended and comes with six-point seatbelts, which, along with the car’s roll cage, ensure it meets the highest levels of safety.
Vauxhall’s 2023 Experimental Concept has been used here, with the onboard sensors alerting the driver to the presence of other vehicles via illuminated fabrics that cover the dashboard and door inserts - the technique is known as ‘painting with light’.
What next for the Corsa GSE Gran Turismo?
As well as appearing at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, the Corsa GSE Gran Turismo will make its digital debut in Gran Turismo 7 this autumn, where it has been created as a Vision Gran Turismo car.
“The Vauxhall Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo takes the GSE sub-brand to the next level. It not only shows what is possible on a small car platform, it also displays a clear view of the future. Taking the iconic Corsa nameplate and combining it with GSE high-performance engineering results in a breathtaking concept that will deliver OMG! GSE moments,” said Steve Catlin, Managing Director, Vauxhall.
