New Vauxhall Mokka GSE is the marque’s fastest ever electric car

Vauxhall has revealed its new Mokka GSE, inspired by the prototype Mokka GSE Rally and set to become the brand’s fastest electric car.

In case you were wondering, GSE stands for Grand Sport Electric, which is a specific section of Vauxhall’s electric range that gives its existing cars a more ‘athletic’ look and driver-focused chassis set up for higher levels of performance.

Powertrain & Important Figures

Anyway, back to the fastest electric Vauxhall on the market and how it achieves this speed. This is due to its EV powertrain shared with other Stellantis stablemates, such as the Peugeot e-208 GTI, Abarth 600e, and Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce. The numbers are up from the previous Mokka model, and the GSE produces 276bhp, resulting in a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 124mph.

There are three drive modes to choose from - Sport, Normal and Eco - which are pretty self explanatory and energy is stored in a 54kWh lithium-ion battery.

What has changed from the standard electric Mokka?

Hitting the scales at a relatively light 1.6 tonnes, the Mokka GSE has front wheel drive with a Torsen multi-plate limited slip differential and specially designed axles giving it 189% increase in stiffness compared to a normal electric Mokka.

Sister brand Opel’s experience in electric rallying over the last five years has been shared with Vauxhall, giving the Mokka GSE a rally-bred steering system, chassis and brakes courtesy of experts, Alcon.

New aerodynamically optimised 20-inch alloys are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport EV 225/40 R20 tyres, only available for the Mokka GSE at Vauxhall. The bright yellow four-piston GSE brake callipers stand out at first glance, and yellow and black GSE lettering adorns the car’s front and sides just in case you needed an extra reminder.

Interior & Tech

Inside the Mokka GSE, a mix of grey, white and yellow is used throughout, while the driver and front passenger sit on Alcantara GSE sports seats with integrated headrests. More Alcantara is used on the door inserts, and the steering wheel has been newly developed specifically for the Mokka GSE, featuring a flatter top and bottom.

A 10-inch digital driver information display sits alongside a central colour touchscreen, providing information such as GSE performance data, G-force display, and battery management.

Price & Release Date

There’s no word on price and release date quite yet, with those details due to be released in the next few weeks. Currently, you can pick up a new Mokka for between £26,000 and £32,145, and last year’s GS trim would set you back £39,735. I’d expect the GSE version to be pushing far beyond the £40k mark.

Stay tuned for further updates.
