The new hybrid twin-turbo V8 Lamborghini engine
It is set to power the Lamborghini Huracán successor.
Lamborghini has given us details of its new engine, capable of 10,000rpm and due to power its upcoming supercar - code named 634 but now widely expected to be called the Lamborghini Temerario.
The twin-turbocharged 4-litre V8 is a brand new design from the Italian powerhouse and replaces the outgoing V10 seen on the Huracán. It is combined with a plug in hybrid system that incorporates three electric motors and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The engine itself generates 789bhp equating to 197bhp per litre and the 10,000rpm is a figure usually seen only on racing engines. Maximum power is delivered at 9000-9750rpm while the maximum torque of 730Nm is delivered between 4,000 and 7,000rpm thanks to the integration of the electric unit in the ICE. Of the three electric motors, one is between the engine and eight speed dual clutch transmission and produces an added 147bhp,
Lamborghini says that the engine sound was “another crucial element of the design process” and will reach peak volume at high revs thanks to the vibrations transmitted to the chassis by the flat-plane crankshaft.
The launch of the Temerario is due later this year and will be up against rivals such as the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren Artura. It signals a further step closer to the electrification that Lamborghini is set to adopt in the future which began with the unveiling of the Revuelto in 2023 and Urus SE last month
