The Grand Tour returns for final adventure in One For The Road

After 22 years on screen together, the famous motoring trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will team up for one final outing in The Grand Tour: One For The Road.

The magical formula was created in 2003 when May joined Clarkson and Hammond - already presenters for one series - on the relaunched Top Gear series. Since then, the trio’s on screen relationship has gone from strength to strength, with their stint on Top Gear lasting 12 years and spawning one of the BBC’s most successful shows internationally. Initially a studio-based format, the growth of the show led to several road trip specials which proved to be many of the best episodes. The move to Amazon Prime in 2016 to start The Grand Tour followed a similar format before switching to specials only in 2019.

One For The Road is set to be the last of the specials and the final episode of all time. It sees the trio heading off for one last adventure across Zimbabwe in three cars they’ve always wanted to own, a Lancia Montecarlo, Ford Capri and Triumph Stag. The teaser trailer, soundtracked by ‘He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother’ from The Hollies, finishes with Clarkson saying, “So for the last time - here we go.”

The trio recently dissolved their production company and will now devote their time to successful solo projects. Clarkson currently hosts Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Clarkson’s Farm, which has drawn huge viewing figures for Amazon. Hammond has hosted several solo projects in recent years, and can currently be seen in Richard Hammond's Workshop on Discovery. May continues his world travels in a solo capacity in James May: Our Man in... for Prime Video.

Clarkson had answered why The Grand Tour was coming to an end in an interview last year, explaining: "I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We’ve done everything you can do with a car.

"When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air."

The final episode of The Grand Tour will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 13th September.
