Renault Maison 5 experience set for London’s Oxford Street
Renault 5 E-Tech Electric takes over Future Stores
Renault is set to make a splash on London’s Oxford Street, hosting an ‘immersive and captivating’ pop-up experience.
The event, which runs from 22-30 March, will offer customers the chance to experience the Renault 5 E-Tech, with three versions of the electric supermini on display and giant screens around the shop displaying the car’s key features.
Renault will be the first automotive brand to have ever had a presence on the famous Oxford Street. It is a chance for the French brand to showcase the 5 E-Tech to an area that has an annual footfall of 70 million.
Presenters Jack Scarlett (Fully Charged Show) and Nicola Hume (Red Bull Racing’s ‘Talking Bull’ podcast) will be at the store on select days answering questions from the public, while a DJ and merchandise corner will also feature.
David Isherwood, Marketing Director, Renault UK, said: “Renault 5 is a pop icon, exuding its own unique sense of energy and fun wherever it goes, and we’re keen to share that with as many people as we can.”
Critical and commercial success
The Renault 5 E-Tech has gone down well with critics, winning Car of the Year awards from Top Gear, What Car? and other publications.
Orders have been open since last year, and recently, the first batch of production cars arrived in the UK from France. For those partial to a bit of tennis, a special Roland-Garros edition has even been released.
So why has it been such a smash hit? Many people have been reticent to the idea of an EV, with some just seeing them as ‘white goods’ devoid of personality and style. The Renault 5 E-Tech - based on the 5 hatchback from 1972 - has been able to tread the line between nostalgia and modernity, hitting an automotive sweet spot.
Priced from £22,995, the 5 E-Tech has a range of up to 252 miles on a single charge, with an 80% recharge possible in half an hour.
But wait, there’s more from Renault. And for those with a lot more money to spend, check out John Marcar’s deep dive into the recently revealed super Renault 5 Turbo 3E. The French brand calls it its first-ever electric mini-supercar and it might just be most exciting EV in recent history.
