Renault 5 Turbo 3E to take on Goodwood hillclimb in UK dynamic debut
Renault is set to cause quite the storm at this summer’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with the dynamic debut of its 5 Turbo 3E, as well as appearances from its Twingo E-Tech and 4 E-Tech.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E was first revealed to be heading into production in December 2024, two years after the unveiling of its concept - a tribute to the R5 Turbo from the early 1980s. Since then, we’ve had more information about pricing and specs, while late last year, it took to the road for the first time in Corsica, Italy, ahead of the Historic Tour de Corse rally.
The first of the 1,980 deliveries of the R5 Turbo 3E will take place sometime in 2027, with prices beginning at £135,000 including VAT, although after the addition of options, accessories and personalisation, expect many of those models to go for closer to £200,000.
Dynamic debut in front of 250,000 people
The famous hillclimb run will see the Renault 5 Turbo 3E showcase all of its 562bhp in front of around 250,00 people as one of the biggest automotive events in the world takes place in West Sussex. The modern take on the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 of the 1980s is the French brand’s most powerful road-going car ever created, with a 0–62 mph sprint taking under 3.5 seconds thanks to its 800-volt battery structure.
Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault brand, said: “Renault 5 Turbo 3E embodies the boldness and spirit of innovation that have always defined Renault. By reinventing the legendary Renault 5 Turbo for the electric era, we have created something truly unique: a mini-supercar that combines spectacular performance with cutting-edge electric technology. Bringing the production-ready Renault 5 Turbo 3E to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for its UK dynamic debut is the perfect way to celebrate this spirit of performance and excitement with enthusiasts.”
Twingo joins 5 Turbo 3E in making dynamic debut
Renault will also give a glimpse into the more accessible end of its range, with the dynamic debut of its Twingo E-Tech.
Having earned the nickname of ‘le frog’ after it was showcased in bright green paintwork, Renault says the Twingo has been “designed to be a true game-changer in the A-segment”, and is targeting a starting price below £20,000. It offers 163 miles of electric range from its LFP battery and 60kW electric motor, while introducing features seen in bigger Renault vehicles like One Pedal driving.
Renault will display some of its other electric offerings, including the multi-award-winning 5 E-Tech and its electric-powered, opening-canvas-roofed 4 E-Tech, at its stand throughout the festival.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th July.
