Radford Type 62-2 Places First in Class at Pikes Peak Hill Climb
The Radford Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition, driven by renowned Rally and Race Car Driver Tanner Foust, has finished first in the Exhibition Class at the 101st edition of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado. With an impressive time of 09:37.326, 2021 class winner Foust proved his credentials once again, finally breaking the ten-minute run time that has previously alluded him.
Radford, a brand with a British-American influence, and recently revived thanks to the esteemed talents of Jenson Button, Ant Anstead and business expert Roger Behle, drew on inspiration from around the world as the creation of the car took place in France, Austria and California in just a few short months.
Anstead was delighted with the result, saying: “It has been fantastic to see our Pikes Peak Edition take on the iconic mountain with such a fantastic result, we are so incredibly excited to have finished first in Class. Pikes Peak is the quintessential American hill climb so it made perfect sense for Radford to create a bespoke one-off model for the occasion.”
Particularly influential was JUBU Performance, which build a bespoke drive train capable of producing 710hp from a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 DOHC engine and featuring a paddle shift sequential gearbox, helping the car to a top speed of 160mph and reaching 0-60mph in under 2.2 seconds. A Mobil1 oil mix designed for high altitude and Yokohama tyres to help with the twists and turns of the event were the finishing touches to the engineering of a project led by Joe Scarbo.
Joe Scarbo, Founder Scarbo Performance said: “It has been fantastic working alongside the team at Radford, with a shared passion for creating a vehicle capable of delivering in the most demanding of circumstances. Our expertise is in rapid development and engineering for complex racing programmes, which we were able to showcase with the Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition. I am excited for whats next for us.”
After its win on the mountain, the Radford Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition will be competing at the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, from 1-2 July 2023, with a potential appearance at Goodwood Festival of Speed in mid July also on the cards.
