Peugeot announces new hybrid powertrains for 308 and 408

Peugeot has revealed new hybrid powertrain options for its 308 and 408 models.

The Hybrid 136 e-DSC6 powertrain couples a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and incorporates a 28hp electric motor and 48V battery. It can operate, according to Peugeot, more than 50% of the time in electric mode during low-speed town driving.

The brand also says that compared to the existing PureTech 130 EAT8 engine, the new powertrain can improve fuel economy by 15% and has a reduced rate of Vehicle Excise Duty and Benefit-in-Kind Tax for company car drivers thanks to the CO2 reduction.

The 48V battery recharges itself while driving and is positioned in the front of the car, meaning all 308 and 408 models come with the same amount of interior and boot space. Peugeot also claims that the battery’s positioning offers ‘optimal weight distribution.’

On the 308, the new hybrid powertrain will be available for a starting price of £29,040 OTR, while the 408 starts from £32,585 OTR.
