When the Mercedes-Benz SL ‘Pagoda’ was released in 1963, it was instantly revered by numerous petrolheads and celebrities alike. Something of a masterpiece, it could be argued that there wouldn’t be any way to improve on what is an indisputable classic. Everrati has taken it upon itself to redefine this masterpiece by converting it to an electric car and was shown for the first time in Monaco in October last year.

First restored to concours standard, the SL ‘Pagoda’ has been hand built and repowered using Mercedes specialists with an electric powertrain designed and made in-house by the Oxfordshire-based brand.

Everrati says that transforming the classic to an EV optimises weight distribution and keeps the “important metrics as close to the donor SL ‘Pagoda’ as much as possible” without compromising performance. The result is two bespoke versions of its OEM-grade electric powertrain, one with a 54.4kWh battery that gives 160 miles of range and 0-60mph sprint in under 8 seconds. The other ‘Touring’ version features a larger 68kWh battery has an extended range of over 200 miles and can do 0-60mph in less than 7 seconds. Both versions have the same 300bhp electric motor, limited slip differential and regenerative braking allowing ‘one-pedal’ driving.

Inside, super soft luxury leather provided by Everrati partner Bridge of Weir (maker of the world’s lowest carbon leather for the automotive industry apparently) gives the SL ‘Pagoda’ a new touch of class and covers the seats, dashboard and door panels. It comes in a matt finish and is available in light Vanilla, Cashmere, and Fawn. For a darker look, there are Fastnet and Black hide colours.

Custom ‘original’ dials give the Mercedes its classic look, though the car is brought into the modern day with the addition of custom-designed dials, Bluetooth audio and heated seats to make it the ultimate grand tourer.

What is the price of all this? Commissions start from £330,000 plus taxes (£399,600 including VAT) but the donor car needed for the build will bump up the cost.

Justin Lunny, Everrati Co-Founder and CEO: “Our redefined electric Mercedes-Benz SL ‘Pagoda’ is the new benchmark for understated, sustainable luxury. This meticulously restored and redefined car is the ultimate two-seater electric luxury grand tourer, a unique proposition which pays homage to the history of the legendary SL ‘Pagoda’, yet is fully futureproofed, enabling it to be enjoyed today - and in the hands of the next generation tomorrow. Everrati is witnessing a revolution with surging demand for high-end sustainable vehicles which are zero-emission yet retain timeless design and iconic character. the highest standards and could not wish for more appropriate surroundings.”
