McMurtry Spéirling Pure finally unveiled — 0-60mph in 1.55 seconds for electric hyper track car

After being teased last week, McMurtry Automotive has finally unveiled its £995k production Spéirling Pure electric hyper track car — a car which McMurtry says “enables any driver to experience F1-level performance”.

The single-seater production car is built with 95% new components compared to the prototype models and is the culmination of a decade-long research and development programme.

The prototype model has already made waves in the automotive world, setting numerous records and breaking new ground. In 2022, the Spéirling prototype set a new Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb record, before beating the Top Gear Test Track record in 2025. A more unusual record was set that same year, with the Spéirling prototype becoming the first car ever to drive upside down.

Powertrain, Chassis & Bodywork

Powering the Spéirling Pure is a 100kWh battery — up from 60kWh on the prototype — and new Helix drive motors with additional torque, all mated to an upgraded gearbox. The battery can be charged from 20% to 95% in between 20 and 60 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and charger capacity.

As for performance, a 0-60 mph sprint in 1.55 seconds and overall top speed of 190mph show why the Spéirling Pure has been breaking records in recent years.

Other changes include moving the cooling system to the front of the production model for better efficiency and aerodynamics. The production version is also bigger than the prototype, with increases of 10% to its wheelbase (2m to 2.2m), 14% to its width and 11% to its length helping to accommodate the larger 100kWh battery. These changes help to bring the Spéirling Pure in at a total weight of 1,350 kg.

Carbon fibre bodywork is sculpted around these larger dimensions, although McMurtry says its design team focused on maintaining the ‘same proportions’ as the prototype.

Driving Experience

Possibly the most talked about ability of the Spéirling Pure is its Downforce-on-Demand technology, which produces up to 2,000kg of downforce from 0mph.

It uses two high-speed fans to generate suction underneath the car and pull it onto the road surface like a highly controlled vacuum. The fans spin at up to 23,000rpm, drawing air from a sealed region beneath the chassis and through filters to create downforce. This process creates a non-EV-like sound, which McMurtry says is more like a ‘jet engine’ than an EV's.

Talking of electrics, the Spéirling Pure’s electric power steering system has been replaced by a hydraulic power-assisted steering system with F1-style valving for lighter steering and increased driver feedback.

Interior

The increase in size of the car means a bigger interior, with more elbow and leg room and a wider door opening with a repositioned A-pillar for a wider field of view.

McMurtry says each seat will be ‘uniquely tailored to its owner’ through a custom-moulded process similarly used on Le Mans prototypes. The seat — as well as the steering wheel and dashboard trim — can be finished in a range of option colours, stitching, stripes and logos.

The racing-style steering wheel has been created to provide easy access to key controls when driving at speed and incorporates a fan rev paddle. A central screen gives key information on power, fan settings, state of charge, speed and temperatures.

Price, Options & Competition

Only 100 examples of the Spéirling Pure will be made, priced at £995,000 plus taxes. First customer deliveries will begin later in 2026.

Prospective customers will get the chance during the order process to collaborate with an in-house designer to create a personalised specification, with an extensive range of options including various wheel designs, unique graphics and paint finishes and bespoke interior trim.

The car is eligible to compete at various events around the world, including the Global Time Attack in the USA and European Time Attack Masters at the Nürburgring. McMurtry will also put on a calendar of ‘bucket list’ track events throughout the year supported by factory engineers, technicians and driver coaches.

Future Appearances

The McMurtry Spéirling Pure will make an appearance at this month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed before making its official public debut in full production form at The Quail in Monterey, California, next month on 14 August.
