McMurtry set to reveal production version of record-breaking Spéirling Pure
McMurtry Automotive, the UK-based electric hypercar manufacturer founded by engineering pioneer Sir David McMurtry, is set to reveal the production version of its electric hyper track car — Spéirling Pure.
The single seater — named after the Old Gaelic word for ‘thunderstorm’ — has already been busy, beating several speed records thanks to its 1.55-second 0-60mph sprint time, 3.5G cornering and top speed of 190mph. These include the Top Gear Test Track lap time in 2025 held by the V10-powered Renault R24 Formula 1, as well as hillcimb records at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2022 and Laguna Seca Corkscrew in 2024.
During McMurtry’s recent tour of Denmark, the Spéirling Pure VP1 set back-to-back outright lap records at Jyllandsringen and Padborg Park circuits with two non-professional drivers at the wheel. The Jyllandsringen lap record, set by a private McMurtry customer, beat the previous outright record held by a professionally driven Formula 4 car by over two seconds.

A more bizarre (and potentially more impressive) record was also set last year when the McMurtry Spéirling became the first car to drive upside down.
More recently, the car community was treated to a fascinating YouTube video from former Top Gear host Chris Harris, who documented his year behind the scenes with McMurtry as it developed the Spéirling.
Only 100 examples of the Spéirling Pure will be made, priced at £995,000 plus taxes. First customer deliveries will begin later in 2026.
