Maserati celebrates 20th anniversary of MC12 with two MC20 specials
Only 20 units of the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda will be produced.
In 2004, Maserati returned to the world of motorsport after a 37 year absence with its iconic MC12. Twenty years later, the Italian brand is celebrating that feat with the release of two specials of its current MC20 supercar called the Icona and Leggenda.
Using Maserati’s Furoriserie personalisation programme, the two specials feature liveries and other upgrades paying homage to its motorsport participation.
The Maserati Icona has a blue and white livery based on the MC12 Stradale and also pays with hints from the Maserati Trofeo Light and Birdcage Type 61 from 1959, including the Italian flag. The Fuoriserie logo is placed on the side of the livery and chrome plated wheels have a specific Trident design with silver hubcaps contrasted with a blue Trident logo. More blue can be seen on the brake callipers and a carbon fibre engine cover gives it further uniqueness compared to the usual MC20.
The Maserati Leggenda has a ‘Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte’ coloured livery, previously seen on the MC12 GT1 Vitaphone Racing team car which managed three wins at the 24 Hours of Spa. Personalised features from the Fuoriserie programme on the Leggenda include special wheels, the Trident logo in yellow on the grille, and black brake callipers.
Both specials come with lightweight monocoque racing seats that has the Trident embroidered on the headrest along with the specific model name. There is a Sonus Faber sound system and plenty of carbon fibre worked into the interior, and both have electronic limited-slip differential.
To this day, the MC12 Stradale remains the fastest production car that Maserati has ever produced thanks to its Ferrari-derived V12 with a top speed of 205mph and a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds. Just 50 of the Stradale were ever made and the two specials will be similarly limited in production, as only 20 of each model will be available to buy.
