Longbow reveals £85k Speedster - Sketch to Prototype in just six months
British electric sports car company Longbow held an event to unveil its Speedster, a fully working prototype of a car that was merely a sketch just six months ago.
For a process that typically takes a traditional OEM around 18 months, it represents a remarkably speedy build, and Longbow says deliveries of its £84,995 production model will commence in 2026.
While Longbow’s ‘Speed of Lightness’ approach applies to its build times, it is the car itself that embodies this ethos the most. With a weight of just 895kg, thanks to the combination of its aluminium chassis, light, compact electric motor and ‘module-to-chassis’ battery tech, it becomes the world’s first Featherweight Electric Vehicle (FEV).
The company was only founded in 2023 and says it is building ‘attainable and accessible’ electric sports cars for ‘those who love driving’ and calls the Speedster a ‘spiritual successor’ to British icons like the Lotus Elise and Jaguar E-Type. Able to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and capable of 275 miles of range, the open top Speedster will later be joined by the closed top Roadster, costing £64,995.
