King Charles III’s electric Jaguar coming to auction
A Jaguar I-Pace formerly owned and used by King Charles III for his personal use is to be sold as part of the Historic Auctioneers’ sale at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 2nd March.
This particular Jaguar, the only one to be finished in Loire Blue, became the first electric car to be owned by a member of the royal family when it was bought for £60,000 by Charles in September 2018 and a fast charger was subsequently installed at Clarence House, his official London residence.
The exterior colour, as well as the contrasting Light Oyster Windsor interior and other specific details, were both chosen personally by the King. It was driven by Charles, with other members of the royal family in tow, before being returned to Jaguar in December 2020 with 3,000 miles on the clock.
Current owner of the car, Karen French commented, “It was only when I agreed to buy it that I discovered its extraordinary history - I was absolutely thrilled. Having driven it over 30,000 miles”, she added, ”I decided in the New Year that it was time for a change.”
Historics’ Head of Auctions, Mathew Priddy, emphasised the car’s enduring collector car value, stating: “We are thrilled to bring this royal icon to auction. It's an unrepeatable piece of electric motoring history. With the Jaguar I-Pace being discontinued ahead of Jaguar’s re-launch in 2025, this will remain surely the most significant example, which will be reflected in its increasing value.”
The electric Jaguar, with 35,000 on the clock, is estimated to fetch between £55,000-£70,000 and will join nearly 180 other classic and collector cars in the auction at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday, 2nd March, commencing 9:30am.
