Kia reveals new concept car to celebrate 80th birthday
Kia celebrated its 80th anniversary during a ceremony at Kia Vision Square in Yongin, South Korea, and gave itself a brand new concept car as a present.
It’s called the Vision Meta Turismo, an electric four-door saloon which many people are speculating may signal a revival of one of Kia’s old models, the Stinger. The Stinger was in production from 2017 - 2023, although Kia says this concept pays “homage to the speed and elegance of 1960s long-distance touring.”
Kia also notes that the Vision Meta Turismo focuses on ‘performance driving’, ‘immersive driving experience through digital interaction’ and ‘spaciousness of the lounge space’.
Exterior
The concept also provides a look at Kia’s future design philosophy, known as 'Opposites United'. In this instance, the brand says the concept “blends soft surfaces with geometric elements”, although at first glance, all I’m seeing is a Lamborghini Aventador that’s had a few too many mince pies. Anyhow, it is ultimately a saloon and a futuristic looking one at that, so the Stinger speculation is likely to continue until the production car is revealed.
Thin LED headlights, which Kia used on the EV3, EV5 and EV9, continue to be used, although this time they are jutting out somewhat, while you’ll have to make sure to wear suncream with the large glass panoramic sunroof letting in plenty of light to the interior.
Interior
Speaking of the interior, the Vision Meta Turismo prioritises space and lots of it. Throw in a unique driver’s seat, yoke-style steering wheel and a joystick to control an integrated Head-Up Display, which makes it look like you’re piloting a spaceship rather than a roadcar. Oh, and while you’re on the road, you’ll have the choice between three digital modes — Speedster, Dreamer, and Game — which Kia says offers a more “immersive driving experience”.
Kia’s future plans
While Kia looks back at 80 years as a company, its attention will now turn to 2026 and the reveal of the EV2 at the Brussels Motor Show. The brand will also showcase its GT versions of the EV3, EV4 Hatchback, and EV5.
