100,000 Renault 5 E-Techs built - Milestone reached in France

It was all smiles last week at Renault’s Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai, France, as the brand celebrated the building of 100,000 Renault 5 E-Techs.

With the first Renault 5 only being produced in October 2024, the scale of production is a testament to the popularity of the electric hot hatch since its launch, and shows no signs of slowing down. A competitive price has led to healthy sales across Europe, where for several months it has been the number one selling electric B segment model and number two on the overall retail market.

The 5 has also had plenty of critical acclaim — including Car of the Year 2025 — with Driven’s Alex Goy saying in his review of the car earlier this year that it was the “sort of car the small EV sector's been crying out for”.

Building the Renault 5 at its Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai ensures the brand can also give each vehicle a ‘Made in France’ label. The facility is where Renault has decided to build most of its EVs, including the Megane and Scenic E-Tech, while the Alpine A290, Nissan Micra and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross also sit on the production line there. Of the 900 vehicles built there every day, two-thirds are Renault 5 E-Tech electric models.

Future plans

Now, sales of the Renault 5 are set to go beyond Europe, with markets in Turkey, Israel, and Morocco joining the party last month. Additional markets are likely to follow in 2026.
