James May’s Porsche 911 goes up for auction

A 2010 Porsche 911 (997.2) Carrera S owned by James May is now available to buy through the online auction platform Collecting Cars.

The former Top Gear and Grand Tour host has owned the 911 in Carrera White from new, and ordered it in a ‘purist’ spec, meaning a manual gearbox, rare limited-slip rear differential, and 19-inch Carrera Classic alloys.

The 911 may have been driven by the man we all know as ‘Captain Slow’, however, it is anything but that and is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat-six, putting out 380bhp and 310lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

It is also stacked with a range of tech, including an Extended Navigation module for PCM 3.0, a universal audio interface, and a BOSE sound system. Only 31,294 miles are on the clock, and it has been well maintained by May, having been serviced by his local Porsche dealer and specialist. The car is also being sold with all service history, original books and both keys.

“I’ve loved every mile of its life with me”

May cited his large number of cars and lack of storage space as key reasons for selling the 911.

He commented, “I’ve had this 911 from new, and I’ve loved every mile of its life with me. I’m only parting with it because I have too many cars and not enough space – a common issue when you love cars. It’s a wonderful thing: fast enough, beautifully balanced, and with that lovely manual gearbox that reminds you why Porsche gets these cars so right. I hope its next custodian enjoys it as much as I have.”

The auction will conclude on 25 November, with the 911 currently sitting on £37,750 at the time of writing. You can view the listing here.
