Hyundai unveils Concept Three hatch set to become future Ioniq 3 release

Hyundai unveiled a new concept at this week’s IAA Mobility 2025 event in Munich that will ‘set the tone for its next chapter of design innovation’ and may pave the way for the brand’s future plans.

Concept Three’s reveal comes just months after the unveiling of the Insteroid, a gaming-inspired take on the Inster urban SUV, and both concepts represent the next step in the company’s electrification journey. Hyundai is aiming to expand into a new vehicle category alongside its current midsize and large EV models, which the brand says caters for the “surging demand for compact EVs”.

Design & Exterior

While from the front, it has the look of the widely praised Ioniq 5 with its muscular stance, the Concept Three features a sloped roofline, which, combined with the spoiler and vertical tail, makes the car more distinctive.

More prominent pixel lightings are seen on the front and rear, while the whole car is finished in a colour that is a nod to Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language. Lemon-tinted glass and wheels mirror the interior design, although, due to regulations, the windows are unlikely to be put into production anytime soon.

Interior

The lemon used on the glass and wheels is carried through to the inside, with the seats and floor all clad in the colour and combined with contrasting grey. The cabin is spacious overall, and the driver is equipped with two sets of screens on either side of the futuristic LED-light-ridden steering wheel.

Hyundai’s ‘Bring Your Own Lifestyle (BYOL)’ widgets will offer tailored experiences that allow customers to personalise their journey.

What is Hyundai’s roadmap for the future?

Hyundai plans to expand its range by releasing 21 new EV models around the globe by 2030. Electric versions of every model will be offered in Europe by 2027. The company is also looking into the possibility of advancing hydrogen fuel cell technology as an alternative solution and the integration of recycled and sustainable materials into vehicle designs.

The production Ioniq 3 will likely be revealed sometime in 2026, with deliveries due later in that year.
