Ford launches new incentives to lure EV buyers

Free home charger installation and free miles for all new electric cars

What is stopping you from buying an electric vehicle?

There are a variety of answers that usually follow that question.

Some people worry about the cost of an EV. Others are concerned about the lack of infrastructure in the UK. While for many people, as motoring purists, they simply don’t like them. All completely legitimate concerns, and ones that the automotive industry is trying its hardest to tackle.

For those living in the UK, there will be a time in the near future - likely 2030 - when sales of new ICE vehicles will no longer be allowed. The government is obviously trying to help electric car manufacturers, but convincing the public is another challenge entirely.

Ford takes matters into its own hands

So when Ford recently conducted its own survey on the matter to 5,000 people, the company was able to understand more about the reluctance to make the switch.

The results showed that 25% of respondents were put off by the uncertainty and complexity of EV ownership, while one out of every eight people found it too difficult to arrange charging at home. There was also a third of people who believed charging EVs takes too long and there are concerns about overall battery life from 30% of people.

Following the results of the survey, the brand has now provided new incentives based on the results it received. So what has been launched?

To tackle the uncertainty, complexity and difficulty of arranging home charging, Ford will now negate that by offering a free home charging wall box with installation (worth £899). An overnight charge should also calm fears over the length of time it takes to do so, and building on its existing partnership with Octopus Energy, customers can expect to pay 7p/kWh overnight. In Ford terms, that means that fully charging a new Puma Gen-E would cost around £3.23.

Customers will also be encouraged to use Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network which provides access to more than 33,000 charging points in the UK, while payments will be made more seamless with the FordPass app.

For peace of mind, Ford is also offering up to 10,000 miles home energy bonus on new electric vehicles, along with an eight-year, 100,000-mile high voltage component and battery warranty.

Which models are applicable?

Ford’s offer is available across its entire electric passenger vehicle lineup, including the Explorer, new Capri, Puma Gen-E, all-electric Mustang Mach-E, E-Tourneo Custom and E-Tourneo Courier. A £500 cash alternative to the offer of a free home charger, standard installation and Home Energy Bonus is also available.
