BYD sets new sales record in the UK
Chinese brand sells more cars in Q1 2025 than whole of 2024
As Tesla sales continue to fall worldwide, are companies like BYD stepping in to reap the benefits?
It could certainly be argued as a contributing factor, with BYD this week announcing it had sold 9,271 cars in Q1 alone - a new sales record for the brand. BYD has now sold more vehicles in the first quarter of 2025 than in the whole of 2024 and now has a 1.6% share of the UK market, just two years after it began sales of passenger cars in the country.
What were the biggest sellers?
The SEAL U DM-i and SEAL were the most popular BYD models, selling 3,975 and 2,521 units respectively. The SEAL U DM-i is now the best performing model in the PHEV segment, while the SEAL is the seventh best selling pure electric vehicle.
The sporty BYD SEALION 7 also joined the party in March, providing an electric range of 312 miles.
Steve Beattie, Sales and Marketing Director, BYD UK: “I am incredibly proud of our latest achievement in the UK; thanks to the tireless work of our team and retailer partners we have smashed yet another sales record. At BYD our mission is to bring high-tech and high-value cars to our customers, and it’s great to see this resonating with UK buyers. With the addition of SEALION 7, we are confident that more people will continue to choose BYD.”
