Caterham moves to new global HQ
The state of the art facility in Dartford, Kent will see production capacity increase by 50% up to 750 units per year.
Caterham has announced the opening of its new multi million pound factory in Kent.
The 54,000 sq ft facility is located in a nine-acre industrial park development called Dartford X - just down the road from its old premises - and is part of a big investment by Japanese retail group and owners VT Holdings. The new building contains modern paint booths, an engine shop, a parts warehouse and 33 bays, where the complete build of a Caterham Seven can take place.
Caterham started building cars in 1973 in the town of Caterham, Surrey before moving production to Kennet Road in Dartford in 1987, where it remained until the recent move. Last year saw Caterham celebrate its 50th anniversary and more recently, the brand announced the release of two Final Editions of its soon to be retired Seven 485.
Those interested in seeing the new HQ in person can book a factory tour, which Caterham will offer alongside more customer experiences in the future.
Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham: “Not only will we be able to increase our production capacity by 50%, but for the first time in our 50-year history the production, engineering, motorsport, and commercial teams will all be housed under one roof. It will make us a more efficient, streamlined business.
“Caterham fans and customers will also be able to see first-hand where our cars are assembled. It’s a hugely impressive modern facility and I have no doubt they’ll be blown away by it. I certainly am and I know our staff are thrilled to be operating in such a world-class facility.”
