1966 Le Mans 1-2-3 finishing Ford GT Mk IIs to grace Goodwood in 2026

Ford and Shelby American’s success at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans has been well documented as one of the most significant moments in motorsport history.

The 1-2-3 finish from Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, Ken Miles and Denny Hulme, and Ronnie Bucknum and Dick Hutcherson behind the wheels of their Ford GT Mk IIs saw an end to six years of Ferrari dominance. The story has been told in books, documentaries and on film, including 2019’s Oscar contender, Ford vs Ferrari.

Now, all three legendary cars — chassis P/1046, P/1015, and P/1016 — will reunite at Goodwood for the first time in a decade to take on the famous Hill during the Festival of Speed. This year’s event is themed ‘The Rivals — Epic Racing Duels’ and celebrates motorsport’s greatest battles throughout history. This year is particularly poignant as it marks the 60th anniversary of that famous race at Le Mans.

Members of the Shelby family are also due to attend the event, with Aaron Shelby set to present the “Carroll Shelby Spirit Award” to The Duke of Richmond on behalf of Carroll Shelby International for his contributions to the auto industry.

But that’s not all. The trio of cars will also reunite at September’s Goodwood Revival, where fans will get the chance to see them being tested on the historic Motor Circuit.

The Duke of Richmond CBE DL commented: “I am absolutely delighted that the historic 1-2-3 Ford GT Mk IIs will be reunited at Goodwood this year. The legendary result of the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans is immortalised in motorsport history, and it will be incredibly special to see these three cars run together once again. We are hugely grateful to the Shelby family, Miller Family Automobile Foundation and Rob Kaufman, RK Motors for making this possible.”
