Proceeds from sale of BSA Goldstar to go to charity

Two decades of programming and travels undoubtedly secured their status as national treasures.

It is nearly a year since Dave Myers lost his long battle with cancer at the age of 66 and now efforts are being made to raise money for charity with the sale of the last ever bike he rode.

The BSA Goldstar motorcycle that features in the duo’s final series “The Hairy Bikers Go West” on the BBC, which saw the pair travel down the west coast of the UK, starting in Scotland and ending in Devon, all while enjoying stunning scenery, local cuisine and meeting food entrepreneurs.

The bike will go under the hammer at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull on Wednesday 26th March, with the money raised from the sale going to CancerCare North Lancashire & South Cumbria and the NSPCC Childline.

“A piece of motorcycling history”

Dave’s BSA Goldstar, as well as his leathers, helmet and boots, are being held at the National Motorcycle Museum alongside cardboard cutouts of the pair.

National Motorcycle Museum director, James Hewing, said: “The auction of his bike represents a unique opportunity for someone to own a piece of motorcycling history while celebrating Dave’s enduring legacy.

“We hope this display will resonate with fans and visitors, reminding them of the joy and inspiration Dave brought to so many.”

Colette McKay, managing director at H&H Classics, said: “ Dave’s immense popularity and passion for motorbikes and cooking is legendary, so we’re confident we’ll raise as much as possible for two very worthy causes.”
