Genesis Brings The Power to the Campsite
Our in-house Audio Producer, Tom Kent, recently experienced camping with a twist, thanks to Genesis and a clever bit of tech to go along with their range of new electric cars.
In a world where we're constantly plugged in, the idea of going off the grid can feel almost alien. Leaving behind your beloved coffee machine, disconnecting from the digital world, and embracing the outdoors seems like a tough sell. But fear not—Genesis has found a way to keep you connected, even in the most remote of places.
The Powerful Genesis V2L
Enter the Genesis V2L (Vehicle to Load) adaptor, available for all their fully electric models. For £880, this nifty add-on turns your electric car into a portable power station capable of running just about anything you need while camping. And what better way to test it than by heading into the wild and experiencing the true beauty of the night sky—cloud cover and all.
Are The Dark Skies Really That Dark?
It was a chilly Wednesday evening when Genesis invited me to Exmoor National Park to explore the award-winning "dark skies." The problem? The UK's near-constant cloud cover meant that while the sky was technically dark, we couldn't actually see much beyond the clouds. But Genesis had the situation in hand. The Genesis team provided coffee, hot chocolate, and popcorn, and they also brought VR headsets to show off constellations in all their glory. The best part was that the cars powered all the tech, with expert astronomer Mark Thompson guiding us through the universe. From Saturn to Pluto, we explored the cosmos; it was fascinating. But it also made me wonder: is this V2L technology the future of camping, or does it threaten to ruin the very thing that makes camping so appealing by disconnecting from the digital world…and the wider world in general?
Getting Away Without Really Getting Away
Imagine this: you've got a roof tent on a Genesis GV60 or GV70, a pop-up gazebo, satellite connectivity, and all the comforts of home. You can explore the wilderness yet still have access to everything you need to feel comfortable. For those who want to experience nature without fully disconnecting, this could be the perfect solution. You can easily power everything overnight, recharge quickly between sites (for a reasonable fee, depending on the charging provider), and explore nearly anywhere without worrying about finding a power source. Gone are the days of overpaying for service station coffee—now you can plug in an air fryer and cook your meals in style. This could change the way we think about camping entirely.
A Game Changer, or a Game We Didn't Need?
Admittedly, the V2L adaptor might not be for you if you're a die-hard wilderness camper. For many, the beauty of camping is the chance to disconnect and enjoy the simplicity of nature. However, this technology could be a game changer for those who love the outdoors but still want certain home comforts. What's even more exciting is the potential for this kind of tech to make its way into other industries soon. The V2L system is user-friendly, reliable, and seamlessly integrates into everyday life. I could see myself using it regularly for all kinds of adventures. Genesis has definitely created something clever.
