Volvo implements sunlight simulation in the all-new EX90

When thinking about Sweden, the initial thoughts may include (awesome) IKEA, Abba, snow, and beautiful nature. To petrolheads, Sweden is the home of Volvo. Yet, a country known for its prolonged periods without sunlight has announced that they, along with Polestar, will be the first carmakers to use SunLike lights. They are already in use in several buildings, favoured by museums, horticulturalists, schools, hospitals, and more for their natural quality. But how would that translate to a car? Have you ever seen headlights in the shape of Thor’s hammer? No? Well, now you have.

Provided by Seoul Semiconductor, SunLike LEDs are used to complement the panoramic roof and open cabin, enhancing the connection with nature. In the new Volvo EX90, SunLike LEDs will be implemented in 72 locations within the vehicle to redefine the premium car experience. Not only can they provide a more pleasing light temperature, but they also suppress blue light and flickering, which can help to reduce eyestrain and headaches associated with harsher lights.

“The well-being of our customers is always a main focus for interior design at Volvo Cars,” said Dan Fidgett, Volvo’s head of materials and colours. “Bringing in SunLike LEDs to the interior of the Volvo EX90 is another illustration of our ambition to bring in innovative technology to deliver a renewed premium in-car experience for our customers.”

All non-decorative lights in the Volvo EX90 interior – whether placed on the ceiling, floor, door pocket, or boot – come with SunLike.
