Porsche presents new Turbonite colour in honour of Turbo’s 50th anniversary
Porsche has teamed up with Pantone to present its brand new Turbonite colour as part of New York Fashion Week. The metallic grey tone has been refined for several years as Porsche seeks to revitalise some of its Turbo colours.
The Pantone Color Institute’s Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report previews new and popular colours to inspire the design and fashion industry. It is the first time that the report has featured a customised colour from an automotive brand.
Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche said, “Turbonite is unique. An innovative, timeless, strong, but not loud colour that gives our Turbo derivatives an unmistakable, self-assured look. Like all Porsche colours, the newly developed colour shade was created over several years in a labour-intensive creative and development process.”
“Car design and fashion have inspired each other for many years. Trend scouts very closely observe what’s new and what can be adapted,” said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “In our opinion, Turbonite has the potential to become an iconic colour and shape the perception of the Porsche brand for years to come. Simply put, this metallic grey tone has that certain something.
August marked the 50th anniversary of the 911 Turbo and Porsche celebrated the milestone with the release of limited editions of the 911 Turbo S and Taycan Turbo S.
The metallic effect of the Turbonite colour is created using gold-tinted elements while the top layer has a contrasting satin matte finish. Porsche Turbos will use Turbonite on the rear lettering, side window borders and crest. Range toppers in the Porsche fleet will have Turbonite on the crests, lightweight alloy wheels and steering wheel, while further details like front aprons, spokes or aeroblades can be customised in the colour.
Interior features such as the trim strips, belt straps and control buttons also now come in Turbonite. Depending on the model line, the colour can be used to contrast black interiors on the seat stitching, door panel trims, instrument panels and floor mats.
Porsche’s colour schemes were revised for all model lines at the start of 2024. Standard, metallic and special colour names are now categorised as Contrasts, Shades, Dream and Legends, which Porsche says gives it a more emotional tag.
There is also now the option for a more individualised custom paintwork with Porsche. ‘Paint to Sample’ focuses on classic Porsche colours from the brand’s history, with more than 170 different colours to choose from, while ‘Paint to Sample Plus’ offers customers the chance to create their own individual colours.
