Peugeot reveals upgraded 9X8 endurance hypercar to compete at Le Mans

Team Peugeot TotalEnergies has unveiled the upgraded Peugeot 9X8 which will make its competitive debut at the 6 Hours of Imola on April 21st for round two of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship.

The newly upgraded 9X8 replaces the first iteration of the car which first appeared towards the end of the 2022 endurance season and has several noticeable new features. The most noticeable of these new features is the addition of a rear wing as part of its overhauled aerodynamic concept, whilst it has kept 90% of the original bodywork. The new livery, which has been designed exclusively by Peugeot’s in-house team, is influenced by the brand’s Lion emblem.

There is also a change to the tyre sizes to make the most of changes to the Hypercar regulations with 29cm front and 34cm - compared to 31cm front and rear previously.

Work originally began on improving the car in March 2023 and the new 9X8 has completed several thousand miles of testing to prepare it for the 2024 season.

While it is a tough task, Peugeot will be looking towards securing its first win at Le Mans since 2009 in the Hypercar class in June.

Linda Jackson, Brand Chief Executive Officer of PEUGEOT, said: “For 2024, the target is still the same, to win races! We know that the competition will be even tougher this year but our team has worked very hard to develop a 2024 version of the PEUGEOT 9X8 that reflects the values of the brand perfectly. The energy and effort put in by Team PEUGEOT TotalEnergies have been invaluable. We are proud to be part of this new era in Endurance racing and we want to leave our mark on the sport.”
