Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue takes on the slopes

Nissan has created a modified X-Trail to demonstrate its e-4ORCE technology. The all-wheel drive vehicle has been taken to European ski slopes this winter and modified as a mountain rescue vehicle.

The X-Trail Mountain Rescue has had its wheels replaced with grippier snow tracks and rear seats removed to allow space for injured people to be transported on a stretcher. A seat for a medical professional has been added. A bespoke roof rack has been added to carry an evacuation stretcher and snow shovels. A siren, flashing light bar and powerful lights added to the X-Trail’s roof help people stay aware of its presence.

Wider fenders on the front and rear help accommodate the new tracks and the front bumper has been enhanced to carry a winch, while towing hooks have also been added on both ends. Overall, the X-Trail Mountain Rescue rides 23cm higher than the road going version and footboards have been included to accommodate this.

The inspiration behind the build was to highlight and demonstrate Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system which can react to changing levels of grip 1000 times quicker than a traditional system.

The modified X-Trail will be in five European ski resorts this winter to support the ‘Ride Responsibility’ campaign which promotes courteous slope etiquette. Digital signs encourage riders to slow down where different slopes meet and reduce the risk of collision.

The X-Trail Mountain Rescue will be displayed in a glass box at the popular Italian ski resort of Cervinia.
