The new Vauxhall Frontera is a spacious, family friendly SUV

After 20 years out of production, Vauxhall has brought back its Frontera - available in both petrol and electric form - to join the Mokka and Grandland in its SUV fleet.

The new Frontera replaces the outgoing Crossland and will look to appeal to those looking for a family car. The electric version offers around 134bhp with a range of 250 miles, while the petrol-powered 48-volt mild hybrid has 162bhp and 58mpg.

James Taylor, managing director of Vauxhall, said: “With its combination of rugged design, spaciousness, clever solutions and efficient powertrains, our new Vauxhall Frontera will appeal to a wide range of customers who want to stand out from the crowd. It is ideally suited to the urban and sub-urban environment with a fully electric version available from launch.”

Vauxhall calls the Frontera’s look a “rugged interpretation of (its) bold and pure design philosophy.” Its boxy shape is modernised with smoother edges and is further distinguished by its black visor which integrates LED headlamps.

Inside, the modern look continues in the spacious cabin. The new steering wheel sits alongside two 10-inch displays and an infotainment system in the Pure Panel cockpit which uses a minimalist set up in favour of physical buttons. Useful solutions like wireless phone charging and four USB ports are available to passengers who sit in seats made using fully sustainable recycled material.

In the boot, there is 460 litres of luggage space which increases to up to 1,600 litres with the seats folded down. For even more luggage, the roof can take a load of more than 200kg, should customers go for the optional functional roof rails.

While pricing and full spec has not yet been disclosed, it is expected to cost in the high £20k/low £30k region which should set alarm bells ringing to Vauxhall’s competitors in the SUV space.
