New Renault Clio E-tech Pricing & Spec Announced

One of the most iconic and popular ‘first cars’ has been updated and given a new bold look. Yes, it’s the latest generation of France’s best-selling car, the Renault Clio, now called the Clio E-Tech. With over 1.1 million Clios sold to date, the Polo and Peugeot 208 alternative has undergone some significant styling changes, added new technology and has a single hybrid powertrain. These are significant changes that are likely to be used across future models in the Renault line up as the brand moves towards a “more competitive, balanced and electrified range.”

Since its introduction in 1991, the Clio has been one of the go to cars for city driving, and the latest Clio can use the electric motor up to 80% of the time in cities, with the benefits of near silent running and battery charging without having to plug in. Renault claim that the hybrid system can cut fuel consumption in town by up to 40% over a conventional petrol model.  However, for longer trips, the petrol/electric hybrid also offers a decent range of up to 550 miles and produces 145hp.

Having recently debuted in London, the New Clio E-Tech is now available to order from £21,295 and comes available in three trim levels from launch: Evolution, Techno and top-of-the-range Esprit Alpine.

Looking into the three trim levels, the entry level Evolution models start from £21,295 and comes with 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, electric folding mirrors, keyless entry and start as well as a 7-inch digital driver’s display and 7-inch touchscreen.

For a slightly higher price of £22,695, the mid-range Techno models come with larger 17 inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, wireless phone charging and interior ambient lighting.

The top of the range for the Clio E-tech is Esprit Alpine. If you’re looking for a sportier look then this is the one to go for. Its bodykit, unique 17-inch alloys and sports seats with blue stitching give it a defined look, while heated seats and steering wheel and adaptive cruise control give added comfort. All of this plus an upgraded infotainment system with a 9.3-inch touchscreen and 10-inch digital driver’s display goes some way towards justifying a cost of £24,095.

In terms of its overall redesign compared to previous generations, most attention has been given to the front, with a much wider grille and reshaped LED headlights. Also noticeable is Renault’s new logo which feels like a throwback to the past.

Commenting on the launch of the New Clio E-Tech full hybrid, Guillaume Sicard, Country Head UK & Managing Director Renault Brand UK, said: “Clio is at the very heart of Renault, being one of our most well-loved and successful models, and the New Clio E-Tech full hybrid is a milestone in the model’s long-running story. It combines the Clio’s trademark attributes with the efficient technology that supports our customers as they transition to a car that offers a significant level of electrification, making the model more relevant than ever.”
