Two Rare Bentleys Included in 30th Anniversary H&H Classics Auction
As part of H&H Classics’ 30 year celebrations as a brand, two rare Bentleys will go on sale at the latest of its auctions at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford on September 20th. Both cars are steeped in history and are likely to attract a high level of interest. Let’s take a look at the cars in more detail…
1928 Bentley 4.5 Litre 'Le Mans' Style Tourer
Initially supplied to Bentley enthusiast and Georgian royal Prince George Imeretinksy, this Le Mans style tourer was extensively restored in the 1990s and still retains a top level of condition. One of just 669 ever made, this 4.5-litre model is considered by many to be the best vintage Bentley for road rallying and has gone on tours across France and the UK in its lifespan. Bodied as a four seater, it retains many original features including its original London issued reg number ‘UC 8791’ and it is expected to fetch a price of between £380,000 - £450,000 at auction.
1927 Bentley 3/4½-Litre Tourer
The second Bentley up for sale is a gem with its original Vanden Plas Four Seat Tourer body and matching number chassis and has been owned by the same family for over sixty years. The owner Mr Shotton and his subsequent family member have taken care of the car, modifying it when needed in order to make it usable on the road but without compromising its vintage charm. It is a car from an era where racing pedigree was often crucial in determining a brand’s popularity. With a Union Jack on the door panel, it is one of the finest examples of early era British design and craftsmanship. At auction, it is expected to sell for between £180,000 - £220,000.
Damian Jones, senior motorcar specialist at H&H Classics remarked on the significance of the two Bentley’s upcoming appearance at the auction:
“To have either of these Bentleys in the sale would have been fitting for such an occasion, but to be able to offer both is an honour and testament to the experience and relationships of our team. These are cars that don’t just turn heads, but also tell tales of times gone by. They're both masterpieces and will undoubtedly be among the star attractions at the auction.”
