McLaren to Return to Le Mans in 2024

McLaren has confirmed it will be appearing at Le Mans with entry into the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). United Autosports has been named as the nominated racing partner that will contest the championship in the LMGT3 class using two 720S GT3 EVOs.

This year marked 60 years of McLaren and the marque celebrated this with a host of special liveries on its motorsport cars celebrating the ‘Triple Crown’ - Le Mans, Monaco and the Indy500. Now, the brand will return to one of the Triple Crown by racing at Le Mans, 29 years after winning there on debut.

The two 720S GT3 EVOs entered into the WEC by United Autosports will wear race numbers #59 – the race number of the winning F1 GTR - and #95, the year of the landmark win.

The 2024 WEC season begins on March 2nd in Qatar and concludes in Bahrain on November 2nd. The 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on June 15-16 and will see McLaren’s on the track for the first time in 26 years. United Autosports have tasted victory at Le Mans before, having won the LMP2 class in 2020 and testing for 2024 is already well underway.

“It will be a very exciting season and extremely close between the teams, which is why we have nominated United Autosports as our racing partner. This team has an excellent reputation in the endurance racing arena, and I look forward to our return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which we will see 720S GT3 EVO cars in action.”
Michael Leiters, CEO, McLaren Automotive

Inception Racing is also set to be on the grid at Le Mans alongside United Autosport in the form of a McLaren 720 GT3 EVO.
