McLaren to Celebrate Triple Crown Heritage in Monaco
McLaren has unveiled a special livery that they will first run this weekend to celebrate the team’s 60-year history in motorsport.
Inspired by the McLaren cars that have won the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy500 and Le Mans 24 Hours, known as the Triple Crown, the car will sport an orange, white and black livery for the next two races in Monaco and Spain. Also, at this weekend’s Indy500, each four of the McLaren’s that have qualified will sport special liveries of their own.
Notoriously, McLaren is the only team to have won the Triple Crown which started when Johnny Rutherford won the Indy500 in 1974. They added to this with wins from Alain Prost at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1984 and Le Mans in 1995, with JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas and Masanori Sekiya.
“Having achieved the greatest accomplishment in motorsport by completing the Triple Crown, we are proud to celebrate the rich history of McLaren Racing with a special livery at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix,” said CEO Zak Brown.
With their results this season yet to inspire confidence, McLaren will hope that this celebration of their heritage can inspire an upturn in form for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, starting at this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. As someone who has grown up in Woking, and often drives past the stunning HQ, I’m hoping that a strong qualifying can put them on their way to a much needed podium finish.
