McLaren 750S with 3-7-59 Theme Celebrates Triple Crown

McLaren 720S

McLaren continued its 60th anniversary year celebrations with yet another new livery celebrating its Triple Crown success. The 3-7-59 Theme is a reference to the race numbers worn by the victorious McLarens in each of the three Triple Crown victories and was realised by expert paint technicians at McLaren Special Operations (MSO), taking more than 1200 hours to paint.

A special McLaren 750S donning the new livery was showcased by McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris, McLaren IndyCar driver Pato O’Ward, and former McLaren F1 driver Derek Bell, twice a Le Mans competitor. The public reveal took place at luxury motorsports festival Velocity International at Sonoma Raceway, California - a week before the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix in the neighbouring state of Nevada.

McLaren being the first company to complete the Triple Crown of victories at the Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans is perhaps the defining achievement in its 60 year history. The cars which brought that success are honoured in this theme with the ‘3’ on the M16D driven at the 1974 Indy 500 by Johnny Rutherford; the ‘7’ from Alain Prost’s Monaco winning 1984 McLaren MP4/2; and the ‘59’ as displayed on the McLaren F1 GTR driven to victory at Le Mans in 1995 by Yannick Dalmas, Masanori Sekiya and JJ Lehto.

The liveries of the three winning cars have been combined to create a collage containing details of the three races in a jumble of more than 20 colours, with MSO drawing on decades of combined experience and techniques to create what we see today.

The Satin Black Vortex alloy wheels incorporate alternating brake callipers finished in blue, red and Le Mans Gold, in a further reference to the three Triple Crown winning cars.

Inside the car, Triple Crown logo designs are stitched into the headrests of the car’s standard Carbon Fibre Racing Seats in McLaren Orange and into the centre armrest. The seats feature further Triple Crown art that is etched in graphite Alcantara and is finished with white contrast stitching.

Michael Leiters, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Automotive was suitably impressed:

“The most challenging project ever delivered by McLaren Special Operations is a truly stunning expression of McLaren’s industry-leading paint expertise, on a supercar that sets a new benchmark in its class.”

Just six cars with variations of the 3-7-59 Theme will be created. All McLaren 750S models, each car has already been sold.
