Maserati Racing Unveils 2024 Formula E Challenger
Maserati has one eye fixed on the future with the unveiling of the Maserati Tipo Folgore, the car that will take on the challenge of Season 10 of the FIA Formula E World Championship.
Pre-season testing begins soon at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain and the newly unveiled car contains the same proven technology from Season 9. Aesthetically, the Tipo Folgore pays homage to both Maserati’s motorsport heritage and its electric future. The blue hue livery, synonymous with Maserati, references its famous past and copper accents on the rear look towards its electric future that will see all Maserati models available in full electric version and the entire range running on electricity alone by 2030.
Season 9 of the Formula E World Championship saw Maserati take to the grid of a World Championship single-seater competition for the first time in 66 years and highlights included two pole positions, four podiums and a momentous win in Jakarta - the Trident’s first single seater victory since the 1957 German Grand Prix.
The car will use Formula E’s benchmark-setting Gen3 package and has a power output of 250kW, enabling a top speed of over 200mph. Also, with 600kW regenerative braking capabilities, 40% of all energy used during races is sourced from regen.
Maserati will look to use technologies developed in Formula E in its own automotive range in the future. Currently, the top of its range is made up of the MC20 super sports car and the MC20 Cielo spyder, powered by the groundbreaking 100% Maserati Nettuno V6 engine, which incorporates F1 technology into the power unit of a standard production car for the first time. The new GranTurismo is available with both the V6 petrol engine, derived from the Nettuno and a 100% electric version: the GranTurismo Folgore, the first car in Maserati’s history to adopt this solution.
The 10th season of Formula E will be the biggest to date featuring 17 rounds, including a new race in Tokyo, Japan. It all begins on January 13th 2024 in Mexico City.
